Vidalia, Louisiana (Concordia County) Police Department The evening of Wednesday, August 25, 2010, Sergeant Bush was leading a search for a missing 13 year old girl that had been seen earlier that afternoon. The girl had last been seen attending a church function. When her family went to look for her to leave, she was nowhere to be found. Sergeant Bush activated A Child Is Missing, as his department had done with successful results previously. Nearly 1,200 alert calls were placed surrounding the church, and those calls brought out numerous volunteers from the small community asking to assist Police with the search. When the girl still had not been found by early the next morning, Police and family became particularly concerned, because the church the girl went missing from was within walking distance to the Mississippi River. An additional 1,800 alert calls were launched, and these calls lead to the girls safe recovery, approximately a quarter mile from where she had gone missing.

Crowley, Louisiana (Acadia County) Police Department On March 29, 2010, Sergeant Broussard activated A Child Is Missing to assist in his agency’s search for a 15 year old girl that had been missing for three days. More than 4,000 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the 700 block of Ervin Breaux Drive, where the girl had last been seen. In response, Police received numerous calls with information from the public. Three of those calls gave the girl’s whereabouts. Officers arrived at the residence indicated by the callers, did a thorough search, and discovered the girl safe, approximately one mile from where she had gone missing.

St. Charles Parish, Louisiana Sheriff’s Office - On Monday, March 15, 2010, a 17 year old boy was reported missing after arguing with his mother, not returning home that evening and then not reporting for school the following morning. Sergeant Sampson activated the A Child Is Missing Alert, and more than 2,100 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the 100 block of East Club Drive, where the boy had last been seen. Based on the agency’s comments, the child realized that it would be best to go home due to the high volume of local community response to our alerts. Upon his return, he was found to be safe and in good health.

St. Charles Parish, Louisiana Sheriff’s Office On December 17th in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana a 16 year old boy had runaway and Police feared he might harm himself. He had never run away before, but left shortly after 11:00am that day. St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Deputies began their search and included A Child Is Missing in their efforts to locate the boy. At 2:25pm the alert calls were launched to the search area, nearly 1,000 calls in all, and less than two hours later the boy was located safely as a result. He was found as a direct result of the alert calls nearly 30 miles from where he had runaway.

Pearl River, Louisiana (Tammany County) Police Department When a 16 year old girl went missing from 39000 block of Rebel Lane in Pearl River, Louisiana, Pearl River Police called A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program to assist their search. More than 2,200 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding where the girl had last been seen, resulting in approximately 50 calls from the public to Police. From information gathered by those calls, the girl was safely located immediately after the alert calls had been placed to the area.

Baton Rouge, Alabama (East Baton Rouge County) Police Department Baton Rouge, Louisiana Police Detective Brenda Gann called A Child Is Missing on July 14, 2009 and activated the Alert Program to assist her agency’s search for an 11 year old boy who had gone missing from the 1400 block of North 48th Avenue in Baton Rouge at approximately 6:00pm three days earlier. The A Child Is Missing Technician working the case placed 1,200 alert phone calls to the area surrounding the last known location of the boy. As a result of those alert calls, the Baton Rouge Police Department received a call from someone who “was able to provide information that the missing [boy] wanders far from hope and helped investigators locate him on Kimberly [Drive],” said Detective Gann. Specifically, the boy was located in the 3300 block of Kimberly Drive on July 14th at 9:45pm.

Vidalia, Louisiana (Concordia County) Police Department On May 18, 2009, two girls went missing in Vidalia, Louisiana at 7:40am. A Child Is Missing was activated more than 12 hours later and, shortly after the alert calls were placed to the search area, the girls were safely located at 10:25pm. This occurred in Vidalia, Louisiana when the girls, a 13 year old and a 14 year old, went missing from the 2000 block of Charles Street. Vidalia Police called A Child Is Missing and more than 3,800 alert calls were quickly placed to the area surrounding the Charles Street location. As a result of those alert calls, Vidalia Police received more than 30 calls from the public with information. That information enabled Police to locate the girls safe five miles away in the Wilson Trailer Park.

The 10 calls from citizens of Opelousas, Louisiana that resulted from the A Child Is Missing alert for a missing 10 year old boy provided sufficient information for Opelousas Police to locate the boy. He had gone missing from the 1000 block of Abdalla Boulevard in Opelousas on March 26, 2009. After expanding the case to a broader search, with more than 3,100 alert calls being launched in all, Police were able to safely locate the boy 1/8 mile from where he had last been seen.

A 51 year old woman in need of medical assistance in Deridder, Louisiana went missing on June 27, 2008 and the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office responded. Approximately 1,000 alert calls were launched in the area of the 8100 block of Highway 394 in Deridder yielding 25 calls from alert citizens. With information from those who had received A Child Is Missing alert calls, Deputies were able to safely locate the woman one mile south of Morrow Bridge Road—a few miles from her home.

On October 16,2007 the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office was searching for a 16 year old boy who had gone missing from the 500 block of Hennessy Boulevard in Baton Rouge at 1:30PM. East Baton Rouge Police called A Child Is Missing shortly after and activated the Alert Program. After more than 6,500 alert calls were launched, approximately 12 calls from the public were received by Police providing information. This led to the safe recovery of the boy.

Shreveport, LA (Caddo County) In Caddo Parrish, Louisiana on October 11, 2007, a 20 year old man in need of medical assistance went missing at approximately 8:00am. Shortly after, Corporal Harold Woodard and Dispatcher Martha Bryant were in contact with A Child Is Missing activating the Alert Program. More than 3,500 alert calls were launched in the Lubbock area where the man had last been seen. Numerous calls with helpful information were received by the Caddo Parrish Sheriff’s Office enabling investigators to locate the missing man safely.

Baton Rouge, LA (East Baton Rouge County) – “Thanks again for your assistance,” said Corporal Gloria Ballard of the East Baton Rouge, Louisiana Sheriff’s Office after A Child Is Missing alert calls generated a tip regarding the location of a 13 year old boy who had been missing for two days. Sheriff’s Office personnel then left a voice mail message on the cell phone of the boy’s friend, prompting the boy to return home. The boy had last been seen on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at approximately 5:00pm and the Alert Program was activated at 1:44pm on Friday, July 27th.
