Homedale, Idaho (Owyhee Perce County) Police Department When a 3 year old girl was reported missing from her home on Oregon Avenue on May 30, 2012, Corporal Montes activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist his agency with the search. Upon activation, nearly 500 telephone alert calls were sent to residents and businesses surrounding the girl’s home, giving the girl’s physical description and asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the department. The girl was located safe a short time later. According to the case follow-up report by Corporal Montes, “There were a lot of volunteers, about 100-150 people. This was the most volunteers we have seen come together, this program was very successful and helpful in finding the missing child.”

Canyon County, Idaho Sheriff’s Office “A Child Is Missing Alert was sent out at 7:40pm on 2/10/12 for the child. Within an hour of the alert, a woman who had received a phone call recognized the girl and called into dispatch. The girl was returned home safe and unharmed.” This was written in the follow-up by Deputy Bruni who activated the Alert to assist his agency in finding a 12 year old girl that had gone missing after leaving a note to her family. More than 1,200 telephone alert calls were sent asking residents to contact The Sheriff’s Office if they had any information on the girl’s whereabouts. Ultimately she was found 1mile away from her home.

Lewiston, Idaho (Nez Perce County) Police Department In the early morning hours of Monday, August 22, 2011, a young toddler was found near Pioneer Park in Lewiston. The child could not give his name, appeared to be little more than a year old, and was wearing only a t shirt and diaper. A quick canvas of the area by Corporal Hopple did not glean any details on where the child belonged. A Child Is Missing Alert was activated by dispatcher Lea Ana to assist the agency and approximately 800 calls were sent to the area surrounding the park, giving the child’s general description and asking anyone who might know the child to contact Police. In response, 4 tips were received which enabled Police to locate the boy’s home, approximately ¼ mile from the park.

Gem County, Idaho Sheriff’s Office At midnight on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, The Gem County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the worried father of a missing 14 year old boy suffering from autism. The boy had been in his room doing homework when his father checked on him at 9pm. When his father came to check on him again at midnight, he was nowhere to be found. Deputy Wonder activated A Child Is Missing and over 400 alert phone calls were launched with the boy’s description, requesting neighbors and businesses to contact Police if they had any information on the boy’s whereabouts. Approximately six hours after the alert calls launched, Police received a call from a couple that had received the alert call that morning and spotted the boy walking down a road near their home. They stopped the boy, called The Sheriff’s Office, and waited with him until Deputies arrived.

Lewiston, Idaho (Nez Perce County) Police Department On May 22, 2010, Officer Thueson activated A Child Is Missing Alert when a 6 year old boy went missing from his elementary school. More than 1,600 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the school, asking anyone with information to contact the Police. In response, Police received numerous calls from the public. One resident located the boy, approximately a quarter mile from where he had gone missing. The boy was reunited with his parent, safe. The total time from activation of the alert to safe recovery of the child was 30 minutes, thus preserving law enforcement time, and resources.

Lewiston, Idaho (Nez Perce County) Police Department “A Citizen received the call and was familiar with the child – located him on the roadway and returned him home, “said Lewiston, Idaho Dispatcher Lana MacArthur. This came after the A Child is Missing Alert program was activated by Lewiston Police who were searching for a 9 year old boy who had gone missing February 10, 2010. More than 3,700 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the intersection of 16th Avenue and 8th Street, where the boy was last seen. He was found safe approximately 1 mile from where he had gone missing.

A resident of Lewiston, Idaho, who learned of a missing 88 year old woman from a neighbor who had received an alert call from A Child Is Missing, was able to provide valuable information to Lewiston Police that led to the missing woman’s recovery. The woman had gone missing from the 600 block of 20th Avenue in Lewiston shortly before 7:00pm on May 8, 2008 and Police called A Child Is Missing shortly after learning of it. More than 2,300 alert calls were sent to the area resulting in more than 25 calls from alert residents to Police.
