Story:

Clarksville, Tennessee (Montgomery County) Police Department When an 84 year old man with a pacemaker and suffering from Alzheimer’s went missing in Clarksville, on Saturday, January 25, 2014, time was of the essence for the Clarksville Police Department. Dispatcher Michael Elliott called the A Child Is Missing Alert Program to help in the search of the area surrounding 7 Strassbourg Road in Clarksville where the missing man had wandered away from. More than 2,200 telephone alert calls were sent to residents and businesses surrounding the man’s home, giving the missing man’s general description and asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Police. As a result, the agency received several calls from residents which assisted them in locating the man safe about two (2) miles away. Total time from activation to safe recovery was within an hour. Clarksville Police stated “Subject located within an hour of missing, partly due to the alert calls. Thanks”!

The boy had not been seen since the previous afternoon and Nashville Metro Police activated A Child Is Missing to assist in their search. Upon taking the report, Detective Jones called the toll free number for the A Child Is Missing Alert, provided key information about the boy to the technician and over 1,500 alert calls were placed surrounding the boy’s home asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Police. A short time later, when those calls did not produce any leads, the calling area was expanded to include an additional 2,500 phone calls. Law enforcement received a tip that the boy was possibly in the Edgehill Project Homes with friends. Another expansion was requested to have all calls directed to the Edgehill area. Able to refocus their search accordingly, the boy was ultimately found safe shortly after 9:52 p.m., a little over five (5) miles from where he had last been seen.

The girl had not been seen since the previous afternoon and Nashville Metro Police activated A Child Is Missing to assist in their search. Upon taking the report, Detective Sofer called the toll free number for the A Child Is Missing Alert, provided key information about the girl to the technician and over 3,100 alert calls were placed surrounding the girl’s home asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact Police. A short time later, when those calls did not produce any leads, the calling area was expanded to include an additional 3,700 phone calls around the mall in Rivergate. Law enforcement then received a credible tip from a woman that was driving home who had received the alert call, saw a girl matching the description in the alert and was able to provide the exact location of where she had been spotted walking on the sidewalk near Douglas and Old Hickory Boulevard. Able to refocus their search accordingly, the girl was ultimately found safe shortly after 6:30 p.m., approximately a ¼ mile from where she had last been seen.

A 15 year old boy was missing from his home in Fayetteville and concern for his safety was growing. Nearly 900 telephone alert calls were sent to the search area, bringing in tips that the boy might have accepted a ride. This helped deputies locate the boy safe a short time later 15 miles away.

Lafayette, Tennessee (Macon) Police Department June 4, 2010. An 8 year old boy wandered off and was quickly reported missing to the Lafayette Police Department. An area wide search began that was lead by The Macon County Constables which included k-9s and A Child Is Missing Alert was called to assist. More than 3,000 alert calls were placed in the area where the boy was last seen, and within 10 minutes of the alert going out, Police received two calls with information which enabled them to establish the boy’s direction of travel. Police were then able to refocus their search accordingly, and the boy was quickly found walking alongside of the road 1.5 miles from the area he was last seen and reunited with his family.

Blount County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office After 6,400 alert phone calls were placed by A Child Is Missing on behalf of the Blount County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office in search of a missing 10 year old girl, Dispatcher Crystal Greene said, “thank you for the quick service.” The girl was ultimately located safely four miles from where she had gone missing in the 100 block of Lawson Branch Way in Walland, Tennessee. She had last been seen there on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 10:00am and, after receiving 10-20 calls with information resulting from the alert calls, Bounty County deputies were able to locate her just before 6:00pm that day.

When an 88 year old woman went missing from the 800 block of East Mary Street in Bristol, Tennessee on the night of March 15, 2009, Bristol Police Sergeant Brown activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program and nearly 2,000 alert calls were placed to businesses and residents in the area. Those calls resulted in information that led directly to the location of the woman—approximately ½ mile away in the 200 block of Delaney Street.

Bristol, Tennessee (Sullivan County) Police Department - On Friday, November 7, 2008 Bristol, Tennessee Investigator Blevins phoned A Child Is Missing to activate the Alert Program to assist in the search for a 13 year old girl who had run away the day before. More than 1,700 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the 300 block of Santa Fe Drive in Bristol where the girl had last been seen. Approximately 15 calls from alert citizens were received by Bristol Police due to the A Child Is Missing alert calls. One of the alert calls, however, was received by the runaway herself since she had not yet left the neighborhood. After realizing a law enforcement search was underway for her, she returned home.

Stewart County, TN Sheriff’s Office - At approximately 2:10pm on March 6, 2008, a three year old girl went missing from the 200 block of Green Hill Road in Bumpus Mills, Tennessee. The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program to help in the search for the girl and more than 1,100 alert calls were sent to the area she had last been seen. Those alert calls generated approximately 50 calls from the community to the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office with information. One woman had received the alert call, saw the girl matching the description in the alert, and called the Sheriff’s Office with her location.

Chattanooga, TN (Hamilton County) – Hamilton County, Tennessee Sheriff’s deputies were searching for a woman who had gone missing at 5:30am on Monday, July 23, 2007. By 7:30 that evening the woman was still missing and the Sheriff’s Office called A Child Is Missing to activate the Alert Program. More than 2,000 alert calls were launched asking anyone with information about the missing woman to call the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office received 10 phone calls in response, one of which was from a man who had seen the woman and recognized her from the alert call he had received. He called the Sheriff’s Office and the woman was safely recovered.

Story:

South Fulton, TN - On July 6, 2005, a 13-year-old girl was reported missing in South Fulton (Obian County), Tennessee. After evaluating the situation, Chief Crocker of the South Fulton PD contacted A Child Is Missing and reported a full description to be distributed via telephone. A Child Is Missing placed 1249 calls over the area where the child was last seen. The department received approximately 35 calls as a result of our alert notification. The missing child was located a little over a half hour after ACIM started making the calls. Chief Andy Crocker was quoted as saying “The South Fulton Police Department, along with the parents of the missing juvenile would like to thank A Child Is Missing for their prompt actions which led to the safe recovery of the child. It is my opinion that ACIM would definitely be a useful tool for any law enforcement agency across the state.”
