When a 12 year old girl thought to be in need of medical assistance went missing in Abingdon on February 23, 2010, Corporal Gonzales activated A Child Is Missing Alert. More than 1,900 alert calls were placed to the neighborhood surrounding the 2900 block of Salford Drive, where the girl had last been seen. In response to the alert calls, Police received 12 calls from the public with information, ultimately leading to the girl’s safe recovery 2 miles from where she had gone missing.

On Wednesday, March 3, 2010, Investigator Jon Carr activated the A Child Is Missing Alert to assist in his agency’s search for a fifteen year old girl and her four month old daughter. She had last been seen getting into a taxi with her daughter and Police had four addresses they believed she could be. Over 5,300 alert calls were placed surrounding those four addresses. In response, Police received over 75 calls from the public with information, and one of those calls gave the location of the girl and her infant daughter. Both were found safe by Police.

- Clare County, Michigan Sheriff’s Office
On the morning of Sunday, February 28, 2010, the Clare County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the disappearance of a man who threatened to harm himself, and then abandoned his vehicle, wallet and keys and left on foot. Deputy McClellan activated the A Child Is Missing Alert, and more than 2,700 calls were placed to the residents and businesses surrounding the 280 block of East Ohio Road in Farwell where the man had last been seen. “We received numerous calls leading us in the direction of this subject,” said the Clare County Sheriff’s Office, “and the final call was from someone with him.” Ultimately the man was found safe seven miles from where he had gone missing.

- “The girls were located thanks to you,” Sergeant Wanda Ponder said of the A Child is Missing Alert program, “because callers gave us their direction of travel.” This was after more than 2,400 alert calls were placed to assist in the agency’s search for two nine year old girls that had gone missing after a sleepover. The girls were last seen playing in the yard near the 5300 block of Old Clear Creek Road in Edneyville. The Sheriff’s office received more than 20 calls from the community, enabling them to locate the girls safe, walking along a road about 3 miles from where they had gone missing.

- Sanibel, Florida (Lee County) Police Department-SilverAlert-
When a partially blind seventy-eight year old man with dementia went missing near the 3000 block of Singing Winds Drive, Lieutenant Cooper of the Sanibel Police Department activated the A Child is Missing Alert. Over 4,500 alert calls were placed to neighbors and residents in the tightly knit community. When the missing man returned home of his own accord that evening, his neighbor, having received an alert call, phoned Police, who were then able to check that the man was safe. The search was called off, saving law enforcement time and resources.

On February 15, 2010, an 11 year old boy went missing from the 300 block of Chastain Road in Seffner, Florida and Deputy Kowal activated the A Child is Missing Alert. More than 2,100 alert calls were placed in the area, giving the boys description and asking anyone with information to call Police. One of the recipients of those calls gave the location of the boy, which Police were then able to recover safe, a little less than a mile from where he had gone missing. “Successful recovery of missing juvenile,” said Communications Supervisor Alex Diaz, “we can’t thank you enough for the support you provide us.”

- Training to activation to success all in one day: “ACIM works. The child was located less than 10 minutes after ACIM was notified;” This from Commissioner Ron Ogletree who hosted a training in Fort Payne the morning of February 9, 2010 for his agency as well as numerous surrounding agencies in the area. That same afternoon, a seven year old girl went missing. Officers checked the girl’s residence as well as her friend’s homes and asked all family members where she might possibly be. Turning up nothing, the situation was becoming more worrisome as the girl suffers from diabetes and had not eaten in several hours. Upon activation, over 2,000 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the 2000 block of Lincoln Avenue, where the girl was last seen. In response to the alert calls, Police received over 25 calls from the public, one of which was the mother of a child the missing girl was playing with, less than a block from her home, who promptly called Police, enabling them to locate her safe.

On February 8, 2010, an 83 year old woman suffering from dementia went missing from her home in Gaffney. The sun had set and the woman was only wearing a house coat when she went missing. Lieutenant Hill activated A Child is Missing and over 1,300 alert calls were placed around the woman’s home, asking anyone with information to call Police. A passer-by, who had received an alert call and had left home, saw the woman walking on the shoulder of the road and phoned Police. She was located safe, five miles from where she had gone missing.
